Online Masters Degree
With RTS Virtual, you can earn an online masters degree without leaving your career, family or community. Commitments to family, church, and work make it impossible for many people to attend seminary classes on a traditional campus. The Reformed Theological Seminary Virtual Campus gives you access to equivalent high-quality ministry training for which RTS is known around the world. An online masters degree from RTS can be a powerful tool to help you know Jesus Christ and spread the Gospel. The online masters degree program covers the full range of seminary subjects in biblical studies, systematic theology, church history, practical ministry, apologetics, and evangelism. The entire online program is grounded in the Bible. Scripture is the final authority for faith and practice at RTS.
The MA (Religion) online masters degree is a 60-hour, accredited theological degree available through the Virtual Campus, providing access to graduate-level seminary education for students unable to attend classes on a residential campus. The curriculum for the online masters degree is based on the Master of Arts in Religion degree and is equivalent to the two-year residential version. The degree equips students with a survey of knowledge from various theological disciplines, and students complete a thesis on an academic topic of personal, professional, and ministerial relevance. Students get regular feedback on their academic work and progress through regular e-mail correspondence and a personalized grading system.
MA (Religion) virtual students are required to complete two on-campus seminars during their online masters degree work, each lasting four days, worth a total of 6 credit hours. The rest of the degree is completed entirely at a distance through courses from the Virtual Campus. Most courses for the online masters degree may be started at any time on an individual basis. Occasional online group sessions are also available for selected courses. Please consult our website here (insert link to Academics section) for current and upcoming course listings and schedules.
The Mentoring Program is also a fundamental and dynamic component of the MA (Religion) online masters degree program. Students must choose a mentor to provide accountability and encouragement throughout the course of their degree work. Mentors meet with students regularly, helping them to apply the content of their courses to the context of family and church ministry.
