Online Theology Degree

The MA (Religion) online theology degree is a 60-hour, accredited theological degree available through the Virtual Campus.  Through distance education, the MAR online theology degree provides access to graduate-level seminary education for students unable to attend classes on a residential campus. This seminary education is equivalent to the high-quality ministry training for which RTS is known around the world.  From its establishment, RTS has been committed to providing seminary training for ministry rooted in the inerrant Word of God, and grounded in the principles of Reformed theology.  The RTS Virtual Campus is a part of that vision, and was designed to make a seminary education available to men and women wherever they live.  To complete the online theology degree, students take RTS courses through CD's (MP3, PDF and MS Word files) cassette tapes, notebooks, and the Internet.

The curriculum for the online theology degree is based on the Master of Arts in Religion degree and is equivalent to the two-year version offered by RTS residential campuses.  The online theology degree equips students with a survey of knowledge from various theological disciplines, and students complete a thesis on an academic topic of personal, professional, and ministerial relevance. Student training includes lecture-based writing assignments, highly personalized grading, and email correspondence with faculty that  offer regular feedback to students about their work.

With RTS Virtual, students worldwide can pursue the accredited MAR online theology degree, without leaving their church, job or community.  As much as 90% of the online theology degree is earned through distance education, including completion of a thesis of the student’s choosing.  In-person coursework is limited to attendance at a pair of one-week, on-campus seminars. Over the program’s course, study areas include church history, systematic theology, and biblical studies, with electives in these same departments.  Other topics include Christian education, practical theology, and Greek and Hebrew language instruction. The MAR online theology degree establishes an interdisciplinary foundation for further academic study or Christian ministry in the church, or on the mission field.  The RTS Virtual Campus is accredited as a graduate level program by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada and the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
